French Press

Rich, full-bodied and low-fuss. French press is perfect if you like your coffee with a little more depth and texture.

Grind:
Coarse, like sea salt

Water temp:
Just off boil, around 94–96°C

1. Add 20g coarsely ground coffee to your French press.

2. Pour 300g hot water, making sure all the grounds are wet.

3. Steep - Let it brew for 4 minutes.

4. Break the crust - Gently stir the top layer, then let it sit for another 1 minute so the grounds settle.

5. Plunge slowly -Press down gently. Don’t force it.

6. Pour straight away -Serve immediately so it doesn’t keep brewing.

Tip: for a cleaner cup, don’t plunge all the way to the bottom. Stop just above the grounds and pour gently.

Pour Over

Clean, bright and beautifully balanced. A Chemex highlights the delicate flavours and aromas in your coffee, making it perfect for lighter and more complex roasts.

You'll need:
Chemex, Chemex filter, grinder, scales, timer, kettle

Grind:
Medium-coarse, similar to coarse sand

Water temperature:
94–96°C

  1. Prepare the Filter - Place the filter in the Chemex and rinse thoroughly with hot water. Discard the rinse water before brewing.
  2. Measure 25g of coffee and 400g of water.
  3. Add the ground coffee to the filter and gently shake to create an even coffee bed.
  4. Bloom the Coffee - Start your timer and slowly pour 50g of water over the coffee, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Allow it to bloom for 30–45 seconds.
  5. Pour in Circles - Slowly pour the remaining water in steady circular motions until you reach 400g total water. Try to keep the water level consistent throughout the brew.
  6. Wait and Serve - Allow the water to fully draw down through the coffee. Total brew time should be approximately 3½–4½ minutes. Remove the filter, gently swirl the Chemex and serve.

Cupid Tip: For a sweeter cup, grind slightly finer. For a brighter, cleaner cup, grind slightly coarser.

3/6

Cold Brew

Smooth, refreshing and naturally sweet. Cold brew is brewed slowly with cold water, resulting in a mellow coffee with low acidity and a smooth finish.

You'll need:
Large jar or container, grinder, scales, fine sieve or cheesecloth

Ratio:
1:8 — 100g coffee to 800g water

Grind:
Coarse, similar to raw sugar

Water temperature:
Cold, filtered water

  1. Measure 100g of coarsely ground coffee and 800g of cold filtered water.
  2. Add the coffee grounds to a large jar or container and pour over the water. Stir gently to ensure all grounds are saturated.
    Steep
  3. Steep - Cover and place in the refrigerator for 12–24 hours. A longer brew time will produce a stronger concentrate.
  4. Strain - Pour the mixture through a fine sieve, cheesecloth or coffee filter to remove the grounds.
  5. Serve over ice. For a lighter drink, dilute with water, milk or your preferred plant-based alternative to taste.

Cupid tip:
Cold brew concentrate can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week, making it perfect for easy iced coffees throughout the week.

4/6

AeroPress

Smooth, rich and incredibly versatile. The AeroPress produces a clean cup with plenty of flavour and low bitterness, making it perfect for everyday brewing.

You'll need:
AeroPress, AeroPress filter, grinder, scales, timer, kettle

Ratio:
1:15 — 18g coffee to 270g water

Grind:
Medium-fine, slightly finer than pour over

Water temperature:
90–94°C

  1. Place a paper filter into the AeroPress cap and rinse it thoroughly with hot water. Attach the cap to the AeroPress chamber.
  2. Measure 18g of coffee and 270g of hot water.
  3. Add the ground coffee to the AeroPress chamber and place it over your mug or server.
  4. Pour 270g of hot water over the coffee, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Stir gently for 10 seconds.
  5. Insert the plunger and allow the coffee to steep for 1 minute before pressing.
  6. Press down slowly and steadily for 20–30 seconds until you hear a gentle hissing sound. Remove the AeroPress and enjoy.

Cupid tip:
A slower press creates a cleaner, sweeter cup. Experiment with grind size and brew time to find your perfect balance of strength and flavour.

5/6

Batch Brew

Clean, balanced and effortlessly drinkable. Batch brew uses an automatic filter coffee machine (such as a Moccamaster) to produce a consistent, flavourful cup that's perfect for sharing or enjoying throughout the day.

You'll need:
Batch brewer (such as a Moccamaster), filter paper, grinder, scales, fresh water

Ratio:
1:16 — 60g coffee to 1L water

Grind:
Medium, similar to table salt

Water temperature:
92–96°C

  1. Place a filter paper into the coffee maker's filter basket and rinse with hot water if desired.
  2. Measure 60g of coffee and 1L of fresh, filtered water.
  3. Add the ground coffee to the filter basket and gently shake to create an even coffee bed.
  4. Bloom and Agitate - Pour a small amount of water over the coffee grounds to fully saturate them and allow them to bloom for 30–45 seconds. Gently swirl or stir the slurry to ensure even extraction.
  5. Start Brewing - add the remaining water to the reservoir and begin the brewing cycle. Allow the machine to complete the brew without interruption.
  6. Once brewing is complete, gently swirl the carafe before serving to ensure an even extraction throughout the batch.

Cupid tip:
Freshly ground coffee and filtered water make a noticeable difference. Clean your machine regularly to keep every cup tasting its best.

  3. Grind and Distribute - Grind the coffee into the portafilter and distribute evenly to create a level coffee bed.
  4. Tamp - Apply firm, even pressure to create a flat and consistent puck.
  5. Extract - Lock the portafilter into the machine and begin extraction immediately. Aim to follow the recipe provided via the QR code.
  6. Serve and Enjoy - Your espresso should pour in a smooth, steady stream with a rich golden crema.

Cupid tip:
Small adjustments to grind size can make a big difference. If your shot runs too quickly, grind finer. If it runs too slowly, grind slightly coarser.
